The Just City
Tsomorlig Richter, Alice Pechtold, 10.03.2019
This presentation focuses on the question of the just city. In 2006, there was a German-American conference in Berlin at which Susan Fainstein, a US-American urban sociologist, expressed important approaches to a just city. Then we studied two institutions, that work for an equal society and a just city. The first institution is the Slow city. It is a network, that has supported cities since 1999 to maintain their own cultural value and thus prevent the unification of cities. The second institution is Aktion Mensch. They support social projects, disseminate ideas and values, enable an exchange between people with disabilities and without disabilities through social projects and education. But to what extent can architects and urban planners imagine a just city?
