A huge grid of urban fields encloses and crosses the open campus area of the whole university in Pessac, Talence just till Gradignan. By terraced housing (l'échoppe bordelaise) lined streets the region of around 220 hectares is intersected and divided consequently to public and private spheres. As so developed fairly large inside spaces of the urban fields should absorb all contemporary uses of a city without distinction, from detached housing as well as industries. The dimension provides the necessary distance between certain uses or to integrate clumsy shapes of industrial buildings. The closest possible combination of living, working, culture and education again will be the principal of the urban development. Green spaces interject sinuously, the uniform rhythm of the blocks, taken from the landscape idea of English crescents.
Ein Netz aus großen Stadtfeldern umschließt und durchzieht das offene Campus-Gelände des gesamten Universitätsbereichs von Pessac, Talence bis Gradignan. Von Häusern (l'échoppe bordelaise) gefasste Straßenräume teilen und erschließen dieses Areal von über 220 Hektar konsequent in öffentliche Räume und private Flächen. Die so entstehenden relativ großen Innenräume der Stadtfelder sollen alle möglichen Nutzungen einer heutigen Stadt ohne Unterschied – vom freistehenden Wohnhaus bis hin zur industriellen Produktion – aufnehmen. Die Größe dient hierbei als notwendiger Abstand oder dazu, ungelenke Gebäudeformen und -gruppen zu kompensieren. Die möglichst enge Verknüpfung von Wohnen, Arbeiten, Kultur und Bildung wird wieder zum Prinzip des Städtischen erhoben. Grünflächen unterbrechen in geschmeidiger Form – angelehnt an die Freiraumtypologie der englischen Crescents – das Gleichmaß der Blöcke.

Purposely as validation of the principle with huge spaces all the existing blocks from Bordeaux and its urban fringe are filed and analysed to a list of sizes, shapes and contents. This investigation is motivated by the project Paris Haussmann, Modèle de ville Exposition von LAN (Local Architecture Network), 2017
Zielgerichtet als Bestätigung des Prinzips großer Räume werden alle Blöcke nach ihren Umfängen von Bordeaux und den Vorstädten gleich einem Katalog nach Ausdehnung, Form und Inhalt untersucht. Als Modell einer derartigen Analyse dient uns das Projekt Paris Haussmann, Modèle de ville Exposition von LAN (Local Architecture Network), 2017.
