Green city clean city
By integrating new means of transportation, the neighborhood becomes fully connected to the city of Haifa. It becomes accessible with the help of two tramways, developing along both sides, serving Kiryat Eliezer to the north and Bat Galim to the south. The axes they generate structure the neighborhood and become the main roads to access it. The latter are organized in such a way as to accommodate roadways, wide bike lanes and pedestrian walkways. This arrangement allows slowing down the traffic, while encouraging soft and environmentally conscious travel. In this same perspective, vertical connections, from the mountain to the sea, are facilitated and are more fluid. The access is made possible by the creation of new roads accompanied by their bike paths. Two green boulevards lead to the sea, crossing the new activities of the district.
In a concern for the environment, and therefore for the preservation of the district, most of the buildings of Bat Galim are rethought, reused for new functions. Sometimes the old ones are enlarged, for example, sometimes new ones are built. While the south is becoming denser, the north welcomes a brand-new district, both residential and commercial. Thus, two typologies are highlighted, those of the houses with interior courtyards, and those, higher, which surround them.
With the diversity of functions provided, green areas give rhythm to the life of the district. Dispersed all around, they appear as freshness points, like breathable areas. Each one has its own nature, sometimes destined to the contemplation, sometimes exclusively ludic, connecting to the commercial zone with the cafés and other stores. But the heart of the neighborhood is a park, full of activity. It is articulated in three parts: a playful area, playing with the topography, a health area with sports equipment, fields, and finally, a quiet area. These different atmospheres propose all along, seats, thought furniture, shaded areas encourage taking breaks.
